Ma first blog post, y’all.
I have no idea how to use this program, straight up, none. I already wrote a blog post, but I guess it now lives in the ether of the vanished internet, where things go to moulder and die; home of lost socks, disappeared single earrings, and all the scissors in my house. (Truth!) My first blog – which maybe I’ll find somehow, somewhere – was nice, kind, about cooperation and how acting is a collective endeavour. That’s not what I’m writing today. Today, I am mad. I just saw an article about the Republican National Convention (Why am I reading about that? Good question. Do I like having wood shavings poked into my fingers? No, I do not, but still…) and there was a picture of this grinning guy with a sign saying “From the River to the Sea, Israeli Sovereignty.” Like, what the hell, people? Is this guy a Jew? In what world is it ok to destroy people who are living in a land, even if it’s a land you ally with, even if it’s a land where you want to be? Putting aside the question of who owns the land or who deserves to be there, if someone moved into my house, I’d want them gone, but I wouldn’t want to destroy them. I’d want them to maybe live somewhere else, and if we both had a claim to my house, I’d want us to reach some kind of accommodation. It’s the glee with which people want other people destroyed that really gets to me. Especially Jews, who should 1 million percent know better. Jews I know who support what’s happening in Gaza look kind of sad about all the destruction, then they kind of shrug their shoulders and say, “Nobody WANTS this, but we have no choice.” BALONEY! There is always a choice. any leader other than Netanyahu could come up with ten possible solutions other than: bomb the crap out of the region and lay waste to houses, hospitals, school, families, children, etc. I can not for the life of me understand why Jews reach for “both side-ism” when they try to justify this. “They started it” and “They’d do it to us” are arguments for a 2nd grade playground, not for mature adults talking about real human beings and real destruction. It’s the glee that really turns my stomach, though. The happiness on this guy’s face as he holds up that violent sign. Maybe I should expect this from a Republican, but I truly want Jews to be better. We’re supposed to be a light unto the nations FFS (Probably the first time in history those two phrases were used side by side). do better, Jews. Expressing joy at other people’s misery is sick. Read your Haggadah. Blech. Rant over.
